Makeup artists and charity work go hand-in-hand, though it may seem unlikely since “makeup” is usually synonymous with “vain.” There are plenty of organizations and studios that enlist professional makeup artists (MUA) to help patients and victims feel better with the power of makeup.
Gives a new outlook on vanity, yes?
There are so many beauty-related opportunities that allow us to give back, make a difference, and give a small boost of happiness and morale in someone else’s life.
If you aren’t currently volunteering your time to charities in your local area, you are missing out on meaningful experience, building connections, and the opportunity to help others and yourself, which in my humble opinion, tops all of these reasons.
If your excuse is that, “you don’t have enough time,” I’m not buying it. I manage to juggle being a freelance MUA, teaching my intensive makeup course in Los Angeles along with my second location in Tampa Florida, creating and managing my makeup line, and still having time to tend to my 30 other jobs… being a mommy (which is the most rewarding job).
My little man has even learned by accompanying his mama to charities that volunteering makes people happy and stirs up all kinds of good energy, and that’s something we love around here!
I’ve volunteered and have been the key MUA on countless charities like Stand Up to Cancer at Sony Studios, Project Angel Food Benefit Concert, Camp Hollywood, and Beauty Board, to name a few. And my graduates have went on to scope out and worked their own favorite charities of choice like Lipstick Angels, founded by Renata Helfman working with four hospitals in LA, and NYC, including the famed Cedars-Sinai.
On top of doing makeup for patients and victims, Bosso Makeup School is frequently contacted to do the makeup on the faces of a variety of celebrities for charity events and fundraisers.
These studios and charities call on the best makeup school in Hollywood because they typically have at least 30 or more faces to be done. And as you can imagine, these celebrities can be very particular, and rightfully so. So it’s crucial that these studios have a makeup team that can arrive and deliver in a timely manner with skills and professionalism to make them feel their most confidant.
Almost all of my Los Angeles makeup school graduates work the celebrity charities and fundraisers with me because they know that the experience and connections at these events are invaluable to have a thriving career as a professional MUA in LA.
But I always stress to them that the best thing they’ll take away is the priceless gift of expanding love to others, and to yourself. No matter how long you’ve been a makeup artist, giving back should always be in the mix.
In addition, giving your time back to those in need also gives them the opportunity to talk freely about what they’re going through.
Many ladies who receive a little bit of pampering and conversation, report feeling much more dignified and ready to take on the world.
Do you want to actually make a difference in someone’s life?
