Choosing the perfect foundation for your skin tone and type can be quite tricky, but if you pay attention to four aspects while shopping, you could easily find your go-to one that will truly make your face luminous and naturally flawless.
Skin type
Probably one of the most important aspects in finding the perfect foundation, is to make sure it matches your unique skintone as well as solves any skin related challenges instead of making it worse. Just like a cleanser, scrub, mask or toner, foundation is a skin care product as well. So before purchasing one, make sure it is suitable for your skin. If you have oily problematic skin with blemishes, choose a powder or mineral foundation with medium coverage that will help minimize oil build up and not clog pores (mineral). On the contrary, if you are struggling with sensitive dry skin, go for a liquid or cream that’s hydrating, preferably with a foundation formula that has anti aging ingredients and won’t dry out your skin. At night is the best time to repair your skin with an ultra intensive night moisturizer like Murad’s Essential-C Night Moisture….. and have a few makeup-free days every month.
When buying your new foundation, think about the current season so you will find the perfect texture. During spring and summer, go with something light (maybe even a BB cream or a foundation with refreshing cucumber extract) that will keep your face oil-free and refrain from melting off from the summer heat. For the fall and winter, a rich textured medium to full coverage foundation can help your face achieve even coverage and moisturized at the same time.
Skin undertone
The first thing every girl looks at while shopping for the perfect foundation is the shade. To find one that appears invisible on your skin, first determine whether you have a cool or warm undertone. If you belong to the first category, a rosy or blue undertone foundation will work best for you, and if you have warm undertones, choose one with olive and yellow hues. Don’t worry if you haven’t found the ideal color. You can easily experiment with customizing your own shade from two or three different foundation colors.
Foundation sits on your face the entire day, so ingredients really matter. Definitely have a look at them before purchasing your new foundation. If you choose the right one with at least semi-natural ingredients, (lets be real.. not a lot of foundations nowadays are 100% natural) it can also function as a hydrating cream and infuse vitamins that will help you realize your skin goals. But if you go with the wrong one, it can easily create skin problems (such as acne, dryness, or eczema) even worse. So be foundation wise or schedule a private makeup lesson with a professional makeup artist if you’re uncertain.
